Charles W. Bodemer papers, 1824-1984.

The papers of Charles W. Bodemer document his wide range of research interests and professional activities. The largest series are general correspondence, speeches, writings, and research files; other series cover curriculum files, including files for biomedical history courses taught by Bodemer, conferences, seminars, grants, and photographs and illustrations. The bulk of the writings are manuscripts, which occasionally relate to speeches or lectures given by Bodemer. Research files contain summaries and notes from a variety of authors, as well as a large group of clippings, articles, illustrations, correspondence, and photographs related to Bodemer's writings. Charles W. Bodemer was born in Denison, Iowa, in 1927, and received a B.A. in zoology from Pomona College and a Ph. D. in anatomy from Cornell University. While a member of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944-1947, he was stationed in Japan, China, and the South Pacific. Bodemer joined the faculty of the University of Washington in 1956 in the Department of Anatomy. In 1963 he became assistant dean of medicine, and in 1965 he became an associate dean.
